What WalkLingo collects, why, where it is kept and when it is deleted.

The short version

  • Your study history is tied to your account. Learned words and practice records are kept on the server so they follow you to a new device, and they are deleted when you delete your account.
  • Free talk audio and conversation content are not stored.
  • There are no ads, no analytics trackers, and your information is never sold.

1. What we collect

There is no sign-up form. The following is created when you turn a feature on.

Accountthe identifier (UID), email address and display name Google or Apple gives us
Learning progresslearned words, practice records and your review deck (only when signed in)
Device tokenpush and VoIP tokens for delivering notifications, and the OS type
Study settingsthe time, weekdays and time zone of scheduled calls; vocabulary reminder times
Free talk usagewhen a conversation happened, how long it lasted, how many tokens it used, and which AI model
Planyour plan tier and payment status

2. What we do not collect

  • free talk audio recordings or conversation content
  • contacts, photos or location
  • advertising identifiers

3. What stays on your device

Your streak count, the language you are studying, your daily goal, voice engine settings, and downloaded word packs with their audio files are stored only on your device.

They are never sent to the server, so the operator cannot see them — and they disappear if you delete the app or change devices.

Learned words and practice records are the exception — when you are signed in they are tied to your account and also kept on the server (see «Learning progress» in section 1). If you use the app without signing in, they stay on the device only.

4. Why we use it

  • to tell accounts apart and keep you signed in
  • to place calls and send reminders at the times you chose
  • to work out your free talk allowance for the plan you are on
  • to understand costs and to stop abnormal use
  • to answer your questions

5. Free talk and your voice

When free talk starts, the app connects directly to OpenAI's Realtime API. Your microphone audio goes straight to OpenAI without passing through the operator's server.

The conversation appears on screen as text while you speak, but that text lives only in the app's memory and disappears when the conversation ends. The operator does not store it.

The operator's server keeps only when a conversation happened, how many seconds it lasted and how many tokens it used. What was said is not kept.

How OpenAI handles what is sent to it is governed by OpenAI's own policies.

The voice that reads words and examples aloud is generated on your device. The text never leaves it.

6. Sharing with others

The operator does not sell or hand over personal information.

It is disclosed only where an investigative authority requires it through lawful process.

7. Processors

Parts of the processing are entrusted to:

Google (Firebase)authentication, data storage, file storage, notification delivery, running server functions
OpenAIprocessing the free talk voice conversation
Apple · Googledelivering scheduled calls and notifications (APNs · FCM)

  • Each processor may handle the information only within the scope of the work entrusted to it.
  • If a processor changes, this policy is updated and the change announced.

8. Transfers abroad

The processors' servers may be outside the Republic of Korea, mainly in the United States. The items, purpose and retention period transferred are those listed in section 7.

If you do not want your information transferred, you can delete your account and stop using the Service.

9. Retention and deletion

  • Account information and settings are kept until you delete your account.
  • Free talk usage records are kept for 12 months for billing and abuse checks, then deleted.
  • When you delete your account, server-side information is irreversibly deleted within 30 days.
  • Payment records are kept for 5 years as required by Korean consumer protection law for electronic commerce.

10. Your rights

You may at any time ask to see, correct or delete your information, or to stop its processing.

Deleting your account from My Page in the app deletes the information above with it.

The same applies to a request made by a legal representative on your behalf.

11. How we keep it safe

  • All traffic between device and server is encrypted with TLS.
  • Server functions can only be called by signed-in users, and rules stop anyone reaching another person's information.
  • API keys for AI services stay on the server and are never shipped inside the app.
  • Access to personal information is limited to the people who need it.
